About Sue Reinhold, Ph.D.UPDATE: Rabbi Dr. Sue Reinhold wrapped up three successful years at the SF Jewish Community Federation in late 2020, where she led the overhaul of donor-advised philanthropy work that stewards $2 billion of assets and grants out nearly $200 million per year.
Sue has launched Braveheart Advising, her executive coaching and spiritual advising practice, as of July 2022. Please see www.braveheartadvising.com. Sue's most recent project was the three-year overhaul of the San Francisco jewish Community Federation's donor-advised philanthropy units into a donor-focused philanthropy advisory practice. Team, systems, financial & business model, culture, leadership - everything had to be considered, and the case for investment made, and then rebuilt or built. Between 2017 and 2020, Sue led the adoption of a number of innovations in Jewish donor-advised philanthropy, including: - the first Jewish Community Federation or Foundation in the country to promote massive transparency in donor-advised grantmaking, with every single grant published annually; - values-based default investment selections for donor-advised fund portfolios leading to $146 million invested on a values basis; - mobilizing donor-advised capital into $9 million of direct investment into the Jewish community including recoverable grants made at zero interest through Hebrew Free Loan San Francisco for Covid-19 pandemic relief; - transitioning the entire $150 million East Bay Jewish Community Foundation into the SF Federation, with cost savings from the combination turned into multi-year grants for East Bay community organizations - more of a 'takeunder' than a 'takeover,' and win-win-win for the community Sometimes after meeting Sue and hearing parts of her story, people say "how it is possible you've done so many things?" Sue relishes a chance to go deep and have high impact. Sue's specialty is in creating opportunities for improvement and growth in mission-driven agencies and businesses. She has formed strategy, built startups, done turnarounds, built brands and built high-functioning teams. Her deep understanding of how culture works in and across organizations helps agencies and companies look and get a handle on their key cultural, organizational, and strategic issues. Sue helps teams get focused on how to make change that translates to business outcomes and a better result for all stakeholders. Sue quickly builds relationships, listens between the lines, thinks before she talks, and values collaboration and results. Her expertise is broad as well as deep. Sue has a Ph.D. in Social Anthropology and led corporate strategy at a Fortune 200 company. She has been a professional investor and team leader in institutional, corporate, and personal financial and philanthropic advisory settings for over 25 years. She is a respected community leader, a published author, and a sought-after teacher and speaker on issues related to social and organizational change, and on Jewish text. |
